Support Female Guides

The best way for you to support women in tourism is to hire a female guide on your next Kilimanjaro or Safari adventure. You can do so by emailing our Founder, Glory Thobias: thobiasglory@icloud.com

Donations are also welcome, and make a significant impact to providing access to training and qualifications for Tanzania women who wish to pursue this career path.

Why you should hire a female guide

In spite of the factors outlined to disqualify women from becoming tour guides, women have risen to the occasion and are performing many of the tasks which were once limited to male.

The only way to achieve a long lasting social impact, and remove the barriers, stereotypes and misconceptions that stand in the way of gender balance, is to hire a female guide.

They bring a sense of family values to the table

Those who have taken the challenges of tour guiding see the positive side in so many aspects when they guide their clients to the mountains.

They bring a sense of family values to the table and show a warmer side to guests who appreciate a human aspect to their experience. Guests feel welcomed and at home.

African women are matriarchs

African women are matriarchs; they have a maternal instinct and a caring attitude in their genes, and such quality cannot be underestimated.

Guests need tender love and care and motherly encouragement to persevere through the difficulty of trekking up to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and make their dreams a reality.

Women Work Just as Hard as Men

In spite of being viewed as weaker creatures, women work as hard as men to keep their families together and they perform a lot of manual labor to work their farms. They walk for hours a day to and from their farmland, and they carry large loads of firewood and grass to feed the cattle over their heads.

It is the women who do all this back breaking work often with babies strapped to their backs and towering bundles of hay, branches or feed on their heads. An average Tanzanian woman does more physical work than an average man, yet is still perceived as weak.

At the Tanzania Women Guides Foundation, we believe women are magic and the backbone of our Tanzanian society. They need to be empowered to reach their full potential because they can hold any position in society if they are provided with the opportunity.
